Have you ever read the ingredient label on your deodorant or perspirant?

Most of the commercial deodorants and perspirants are full of propylene glycol, chemical agents and especially aluminum, a heavy metal that has been linked to many of the problems and diseases suffered by today's society. Aluminum is a mainstay in deodorants because it works in deodorants by clogging our pores, thereby trapping toxins and sweat inside our bodies. These toxins build up and get trapped in our lymph nodes. This buildup can lead to cell mutations and even cancer.

To fully understand how deodorants and perspirants work, we must first know the different types of sweat and the toxic agents used.
There are two types of glands responsible for sweating: the eccrine glands and the apocrine glands.
eccrine glands They are found throughout the body. They produce sweat when the body overheats to help cool the body. The type of sweat produced by the eccrine glands is a clear, salt water type of sweat, which does not normally contribute to body odor.
apocrine glands They are found in areas with many hair follicles, such as the scalp and armpits. These glands produce thicker, oilier sweat in times of stress. Bacteria that live and grow under the arms feed on this type of sweat, and the breakdown of proteins is what causes body odor. The armpits are closed so that bacteria have a better chance to grow.
Antiperspirant is so popular because it helps prevent us from sweating. Although this may seem like a positive thing, it is actually not healthy for the body. There are three toxic chemicals formulated in antiperspirants that have negative effects on the body:
The aluminum in antiperspirants it blocks the eccrine and apocrine sweat glands to prevent you from sweating. Aluminum doesn't just sit on the surface, it eventually makes its way into your body and into your bloodstream. Although aluminum works very well to stop sweat, it is very detrimental to our health.
parabens They are used in a wide variety of personal care products to prevent the growth of microbes. They are a known hormone disruptor and have been linked to breast cancer.
propylene glycol It's a synthetic compound used in products like antifreeze, but it's also found in many beauty products like deodorants, fragrances, and shampoos. It is worrisome that an ingredient used in antifreeze is also part of our food and especially beauty and body health products. Regulatory agencies don't agree either. For example, in the United States the FDA recognizes propylene glycol as a safe compound in a concentration of up to 50 grams per kilogram. On the other hand, in Europe, the regulation says that no more than 3 grams per kilogram should be used. A big difference. The Material Data Sheet (for chemical spill cleanup) says that propylene glycol can cause eczema, dermatitis, and allergic reactions, as well as kidney and liver problems. It also causes problems with the growth of healthy cells.
Now that you know how an antiperspirant works, I bet you won't think twice to stop using them and switch to a natural deodorant.
