Immune system studies
Conclusion: Humic acids can stimulate the immune system in several ways.
Title: Glucan and humic acid: synergistic effects on the immune system
Document Type: Peer-Reviewed Journal Article
Conclusion: We decided to evaluate the immunological effects of two different types of humic acids, which differ in their source and biochemical characteristics. Using both components alone or in combination with the well-established yeast-derived immunomodulatory glucan, we measured their effects on both the cellular (phagocytosis and tumor suppression) and humoral (antibody production and cytokine secretion) branches of immune reactions. In summary, our results suggest that humic acids are biologically active immunomodulators.
affecting both the humoral and cellular branches of immune reactions. In addition, the two humic acids studied
Here we are working in synergy in the stimulation of the immune reaction, supporting future studies of these natural immunomodulators.

Conclusion: Fulvic acid reduces inflammation caused by the stimulation of human immune cells called monocytes.
Title: Fulvic acid attenuates homocysteine-induced cyclooxygenase-2 expression in human monocytes
Document Type: Peer-Reviewed Journal Article
Conclusion: In conclusion, fulvic acid (FA) inhibited COX-2 expression and PGE2 production from homocysteine-induced monocytes. Homocysteine stimulation in monocytes resulted in increased phosphorylation of ERK and JNK and activation of NF-κB. FA inhibited homocysteine-induced inflammatory mediator expression by regulating the activation of these pathways.

Conclusion: Humic acid stimulated the germ-killing immune response of human immune cells called mononuclear cells.
Title: Immunomodulatory properties of humic acids extracted from oligotrophic peat of Sphagnum magellanicum
Document Type: Peer-Reviewed Journal Article
Conclusion: The humic acid (HA) sample studied stimulates the production of proinflammatory cytokines IL-12,
TNFα, IL-1β and IFNγ by human mononuclear cells. In human peripheral blood mononuclear cells, it was shown that the HA sample studied also significantly enhanced the secretion of the main cytokines typical of Th1-type polarization of the immune response, which acts against pathogen invasion. The production of IL-12 increased 8.3-fold, TNFα 93.6-fold, IFNγ 170-fold compared to the control.

Conclusion: Humic acid has immunomodulatory effects on human immune cells called macrophages.
LPS-induced Title: Bimodal effect of humic acids on TNF-α release from differentiated U937 cells
Document Type: Peer-Reviewed Journal Article
Conclusion: The results demonstrate a concentration-dependent bimodal effect of humic acid (HA) on TNF-alpha release from LPS-stimulated differentiated U937 cells (which are human macrophage-like cells) for both the natural black peat HA from the Altteich bog and the HA-like polymer KOP. Low concentrations of HA (10–80 microg/ml) enhanced TNF-alpha release by up to three-fold (pro-inflammatory activity), whereas HA concentrations >100 microg/ml reduced it by approximately 10-fold (anti-inflammatory activity). Fulvic acid (FA) failed to enhance TNF-alpha release but reduced it by half at higher concentrations (>200 microg/ml). Brown water HA had no significant effect on TNF-a release.

Conclusion: Oxyfulvic acid inhibits the inflammatory response of the human immune system to allergens.
Title: Pilot study to evaluate the safety and therapeutic efficacy of topical oxyfulvic acid in atopic volunteers
Document Type: Peer-Reviewed Journal Article
Conclusion: In this double-blind crossover study, 23 healthy volunteers allergic to grass or house dust mite allergen were recruited. Volunteers were randomly assigned to placebo, 1% hydrocortisone, 4.5% or 9% oxyfulvic acid.
Creams. Creams were applied under occlusion 1 h before intradermal allergen challenge and then every 8 h for 3 days (21-day intervals). Topically applied oxyfulvic acid had no significant effect on any of the safety parameters and also did not induce sensitization when applied to the skin. Oxyfulvic acid (4.5%) caused inhibition of the inflammatory reaction elicited at 15 min. These changes were similar to those caused by hydrocortisone.

Conclusion: Humic acids strengthen the immune system.
Title: Study of the influence of humic acid macromolecules on the structure of erythrocytes of some animals by the absorption method
Document Type: Peer-Reviewed Journal Articles
Conclusion: Recently, there has been an increase in interest in the application of humic acids (HA) in medicine. These are examples of the effect of HA on some vitally important properties of the human organism. One of the most pronounced effects of HA is the strengthening of the general immune response. Humic compounds regulate the amount of glycoproteins that affect the balance of T and B lymphocytes. In addition, they activate the synthesis of interleukins 1 and 2 and the production of endogenous interferon and gamma globulins that activate depressed functions of the immune system.
